AZR-15 FRT Tech Manual

What You Need

Arizona Regulator device. Mil-Spec AR Rifle or Pistol. Mil-Spec FA BCG (Full Auto Bolt Carrier Group). Trigger: Mil-Spec or MBT 2S compatible. Buffer: 5.56 = 5.0+ oz / 9mm = 10+ oz (weights must rattle).

Core Operating Principle

The AZR-15 cams move your trigger into the safe position where the hammer and trigger are able to reengage, preventing out-of-battery firing while regulating to one shot per trigger function.

Setup Methods Overview

Method 1 (Original/Recommended): Works with Mil-Spec or certain triggers in loose tolerance ARs. Requires disconnector removal during setup for some trigger types. Method 2: For those using only Mil-Spec triggers. Can function as correction if excess material was removed in Method 1. Method 3: Dedicated FRT-only configuration with Mil-Spec triggers. Removes disconnector and spring entirely.

Installation Steps (Method 1)

1. Verify safe condition, mag removed, chamber empty. 2. Confirm buffer weight specification. 3. Selector in Fire position. 4. Tip receiver open. 5. Remove disconnector and spring (mil-spec/certain triggers). 6. Manually cock hammer. 7. Position top cam vertically. 8. Insert AZR-15 into upper receiver pocket. 9. Tip receiver closed. 10. Slowly pull charging handle while tapping trigger. 11. Monitor trigger travel shortening then lengthening as BCG moves rearward. 12. If BCG stops or trigger locks, remove material from contact areas. 13. Perform function check.

Critical Setup Note

If BCG stops or trigger goes solid prior to BCG full travel remove a couple thou of material at the AZR-15 to trigger bar contact area.

Function Check Protocol

Lock BCG to rear. Hit bolt stop to release BCG. BCG should move forward and disengage AZR-15. Trigger should pull freely. Hammer drops. Reinstall disconnector/spring components.

9mm Specific Configuration

Tested with: Colt 9mm upper (16"). Foxtrot Mike Colt-style mag BCG. Kaw Valley Precision 10 oz tungsten buffer. Kaw Valley Precision carbine spring. Mean Arms Endomag conversion kit. Federal 115gr brass ammunition. Short barrel note: When running a short barrel 7.5 inches with a suppressor we had to go to a standard weight carbine buffer spring.

BCG/Buffer Requirements

Standard full auto BCG is required to disengage the ARIZONA REGULATOR. Buffer weight considerations address bolt bounce rather than slowing velocity. Last round light strike issues disappeared after upgrading from H2 to H3 buffer.

Trigger Tap Mechanics

The setup requires sufficient trigger face movement at mechanical apex without binding. Guidance: if you shoot for less than a quarter to half of that distance max you are good. Reference measurement: compare to how far trigger moves until trigger tail hits safety bottom when gun is on safe.

Troubleshooting

BCG stops, trigger goes solid: Remove material from lower cam leg or contact surface. BCG stops, trigger still taps: Gun needs more disconnector tail reduction; mark with dye to identify rub areas. BCG doesn't stop, trigger taps full travel: Gun is loosely toleranced; no adjustment needed. Wear on upper cam tip: Likely sharp/rough BCG; smooth with fine stone or swap BCG. Light primer strikes: Caused by bolt bounce; increase buffer weight (typical H1/H2 issue). Won't reset after excessive material removal: Upgrade to Setup Method 2 with new mil-spec disconnector.

AZR-15A1 (Complete System) Installation

This simplified variant requires only: 1. Verify safe condition. 2. Verify buffer weight. 3. Remove FCG and selector. 4. Install AZR-15A1. 5. Done. CRITICAL WARNING: DO NOT MODIFY AZR-15A1.

AZR-15A1 Out-of-Spec Gun Conditions

Upper pocket too far forward (check against Colt/DD reference). Shallow upper pocket (requires gunsmith machining). Undergassed upper (requires gunsmith correction).

Compatibility/Interchangeability

Same AZR-15 worked in both 5.56 and 9mm configurations after adjustment, though with increased trigger tap movement in the looser setup. LaRue MBT specific requirement: Remove +/- 0.300 off of the lower cam leg length to accommodate the trigger's tall rear pillar.
